About Us

Perishable Distributors of Iowa, LTD (PDI) was established in 1982 with the goal to provide a distribution system that would supply quality perishable products to Iowa customers in a cost-efficient and timely manner. From the beginning the company has prided itself on offering fair prices and superior customer service and has experienced great success because of it. For example, in 1992, after only 10 years in the business, PDI had to double its warehouse space. In 2000 PDI once again had to expand by adding 175,000 more square feet of warehouse space. Since then, PDI has continued to grow and now serves eight Midwestern states with more than 500 employees who provide the same honesty and integrity the company was founded on.

Our corporate office and 350,000 square-foot warehouse facility are located on 140 acres in Ankeny, Iowa. Our warehouse operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offers next-day deliveries. Our transportation department delivers 450 outbound loads per week and offers brokerage and contract delivery services.

With 2012 Fiscal Year sales reaching over $1,007,826,547 and a product list of more than 5,000 fresh and frozen items, PDI is one of the largest food distribution companies in the Midwest.

PDI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hy-Vee, Inc., a supermarket chain with sales of more than $6.4 billion and more than 232 retail stores across eight Midwestern states.
